Andy and I met on CatholicMatch.com. It was his first day on the site and my last. I had told myself I was going to get off the dating site for a while. God had other plans!
It was early September 2014, I had gone to church that Sunday and made my CSA donation. In my inbox on Monday morning was an email indicating I had a new message on my CatholicMatch account. Remembering I had told myself I was done dating for a while, I rolled my eyes, but curiosity got the best of me and I checked it out anyway. I had heard God’s voice tell me that I would find someone “who was in my world but not in my world.”
There he was! Andy Langlands from Clinton Twp had sent me a message. My first thought was - where is Clinton Twp? His profile mentioned love of sports especially our beloved Detroit teams and there he was in a picture with his mom.
While I was doubtful this would go any further, I asked him what parish he belonged to thinking he would say some East-side parish I had never heard of.
When the response came back – I am the music minister at St Regis Church in Bloomfield Hills(23 years) – I audibly gasped, hand to mouth and almost fell off my chair!! I remember it like it was yesterday!! I had been in St. Regis church on many occasions throughout my life for masses, weddings, and funerals. Our paths had never crossed until now. God had other plans!!
Andy will tell you that he had been praying to Our Blessed Mother to send him someone because he was lonely. There were many signs that she was listening.
On the morning of our online communications, when Andy left for work at 7:15am, he noticed a large, beautiful rose bush in full bloom that he had never seen before and a dove (not a seagull or a pigeon) flew in the sky, landed on a light pole and flew again over his car.
We met for drinks later that week at a bar in Troy. We both felt that we wanted to continue to meet and soon enough we were inseparable!
